Secret of J&H and H&S characters! dear ,
Hello? It's Brayle here, once again with a pen in hand.
I've caught a cold lately...
I hope you've been taking good care of your health, .
If not, bacteria and viruses might be thriving and multiplying...
In the worst-case scenario, new things might even be created!!
Speaking of creation...
that reminds me of a story I'd like to share today... |
|
|
Victor?
Is this about my story?
No, Victor. Unfortunately, this time 'creation' is not about grave robbing, corpses, or stitching.
It's all about... the story of those 'newly created' individuals!
Victor?
That's a shame.
So, what does that mean?
and Victor, do you happen to remember the supporting characters from 'Jekyll and Hyde'?
Victor?
I vaguely recall as a subscriber.
But didn't we talk about their stories last time?
The police, I believe.
That's right, we briefly discussed the story of Inspector Newcomen! But today, I want to explore his 'origin story,' or more precisely, his 'recreation story.'
Victor?
Are there no other supporting characters?
Of course! In MazM Letter, we're introducing Sally Tucker for the first time, and Isadora Sly too!
Victor?
It's an opportunity to learn about 'creation' from a new perspective.
So, where should we begin? Let's unravel the story.
Might as well start with those we haven't met. |
|
|
[Character Re-Creation: Sally Tucker] |
|
|
Sally Tucker was originally an unnamed character, but it felt inadequate to simply call her a 'maid,' so a name was given to her.
The name 'Sally' was chosen as one of the common names at that time, and the surname 'Tucker' was taken from the traditional nursery rhyme 'Little Tommy Tucker' from the late 18th to early 19th century in England.
|
|
|
In the original novella 'Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,' there is indeed the testimony of a maid who witnessed Mr. Hyde's murder, but since this maid was a minor character with no detailed description, in 'Jekyll and Hyde,' she only appeared in a state of shock after witnessing the murder.
(The conversation between Mr. Utterson and the maid is a reinterpretation in MazM!)
Victor?
But the Sally we saw in 'Hyde and Seek' seemed to have more vitality, didn't she? |
|
|
That's right. In 'Hyde and Seek,' Sally is shown before witnessing the murder, so her personality is more distinctly portrayed.
She has a romantic, dreamy, and whimsical demeanor...
This portrayal was actually inspired by the original work because that 'maid' was looking up at the moon in the night sky and happened to witness Mr. Hyde's murder.
It seems that people who appreciate stargazing and the moon might be more romantic and sentimental, as opposed to those who are more practical and concerned with efficiency.
Victor?
I see. So, where did the 'a woman madly in love' aspect come from?
If you look at the English nursery rhyme 'Little Tommy Tucker,' it goes like this: 'How will he be married Without a wife?'
The production team took inspiration from this line! Simply having a romantic appearance alone made 're-creation' difficult, so they decided to add a touch of marriage, love, or themes of lovers.
Additionally, they needed someone to tease Mihir, who was too imposing...!
Victor?
Ah, that Indian guy. He certainly seemed imposing. So, how did that old lady end up being 're-created'? |
|
|
[Character Re-Creation: Isadora Sly] |
|
|
In the original 'Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde,' the old woman of Mr. Hyde's house makes a very brief appearance, but her subtly avaricious demeanor was quite standout!
So, in MazM's game, despite the brief appearance, it seems that a strong and impactful presence was delivered.
She showed a subtle sense of resistance even when people came to investigate Mr. Hyde.
This kind of portrayal seems to be further emphasized in 'Hyde and Seek.'
Victor?
People probably won't take the time to read this letter for such an obvious story.
Yes, that's right! Good observation...
This old lady didn't have a name originally, but to emphasize her cunning appearance, her last name became 'Sly,' which has the meaning of cunning and devious in English. I
t's said they debated between 'Fox' and 'Sly'!
'Isadora' was one of the widely used names at the time.
|
|
|
And they needed a character to create entertaining scenes with Mr. Hyde, so they cast Mrs. Sly, who happened to fit the role!
I wonder how much gold Mr. Hyde gave Mrs. Sly...
The production team said they intended to emphasize the image of a greedy middle-class character rather than portraying her as a villain!
Victor?
I see. Keep it brief when it comes to the police. |
|
|
[Character Re-Creation: Robert Newcomen] |
|
|
(I can't find the English version of the image... my bad)
We all know that the Inspector Newcomen in 'Jekyll and Hyde' is a very energetic and righteous person!
While the original work had less of this image, the production team wanted to inject energy into the story of 'Jekyll and Hyde', which is why he turned out that way! |
|
|
And Inspector Newcomen is the only one in 'Hyde and Seek' who symbolizes justice for the citizens.
So, to emphasize him a bit more, subordinate and superior characters were added!
Victor?
It seems like there might be a reason for the police to become friends with that redhead. Do you have an explanation? |
|
|
Redhead? That must be Alan!
It's probably about gathering 'good-hearted people trying to do right' to create a fellowship...
Oh, it's so complicated!
But it's nice to see that Alan and Robert aren't just all work and no play.
Victor?
Well, I suppose that's enough. So, why did that policeman end up liking Kate? What's the issue? |
|
|
Well, I'm not entirely sure, but perhaps it's because 'Hyde and Seek' developers wanted to avoid making Inspector Newcomen too one-dimensional.
Just portraying him as a relentless cop chasing criminals might have been too monotonous, don't you think?
Admittedly, the idea of a resolute, crime-fighting cop who's willing to take down family and friends falling for a criminal might sound like an absurd story.
From what I've heard, the development team thought that having this just and passionate detective, who turns out to be quite a newbie when it comes to love, would make the story more interesting.
In the end, it's a twist that brought the inexperienced Inspector Newcomen and the experienced Sally together in 'Jekyll and Hyde.' Many MazMians have had fun imagining different scenarios about their relationship.

|
Victor?
It seems that 'Creating Character' won't be of much help to me. However, Elizabeth might like it, so I'll remember it well. Next time, I'd like to teach people how to create or resurrect 'real life'... |
|
|
π
It is not allowed!
You must not tamper with the predetermined fate!
Victor?
Is that... a ghost?
π
You may delay death... but never should you tamper with life.
In the end, there is nothing but destruction at the end of that spiral...
Victor?
Even though you are not an old man, you are talking old-fashioned things.
Or... are you?
What could be the story behind the Goat? You can find out in 'LESSA: Checkmate', in 2024! |
|
|
Phew, while Victor Frankenstein's talk about 'creation' is intriguing, the process is a bit... scary to imagine!
However, it might be impolite to the 'Nameless Creature,' so I should stop here. Hmm, what if you could create another version of yourself?
, what would you like to do if you had a second identical version of yourself?
As for me... with two identical people, I'd probably create funny videos with a twin concept!
If you have any interesting thoughts, please share them, and I'll let other MazMians know in the next newsletter.
Thank you again today! Have a great day! π₯°
Warm Regards, Brayleπ€π¬π€
Just a moment... it's not over.
Gaila... long time no see.

The major gaming event, 'G-STAR,' is being held in Busan, South Korea from November 15th to 19th. MazM is participating with Pechka's PC version... The development team is visiting, so you can listen to their stories and play the game at the booth. A special meeting is also planned...
On Friday(Nov. 17th) morning, there will also be an interview about 'LESSA: Checkmate'...
it might be a good opportunity to hear about MazM's story firsthand.
Well then, goodbye.π§‘πͺ𧑠|

Feedback for MazM Letter!
"This letter got me thinking about how I make my own cocoa... I like to mix chocolate with hot milk and add a little honey, it's delicious.
I like to decorate this drink with frothed milk foam or marshmallows.
I also hope the opera workers will warm up thanks to warm clothes and hugs :).
Christina should hug Eric, then he will definitely warm up even on the coldest evening...κ°β β
