, in Hamlet: Prince of the East, based on Shakespeare’s Hamlet, the main character Hamlet—despite being a prince—formed friendships with people of various social classes. Among them, the most notable is surely Horatio. In this adaptation, MazM has reimagined Horatio as a commoner and made him a dedicated student to further highlight his wise character.

Like the original, MazM’s Horatio stands by Hamlet as both a loyal retainer and a true friend. (This is a secret, but…) Horatio harbours an ambition—to help Hamlet become king so that he himself might earn a government post. After all, no matter how clever or capable a commoner is, they can’t gain official rank on their own in this world! Will Horatio’s loyalty and ambition be rewarded in the end?
