, Shakespeare's original Hamlet is set in Elsinore Castle in 16th-century Denmark. That’s why Hamlet studies abroad in Germany and even sails to England.

Since MazM is covering Shakespeare's works back-to-back, we wanted to make sure the project of Hamlet doesn't feel too similar to our previous title, Romeo and Juliet: Trial of Love. So we decided to set it in an East Asian world inspired by Korean traditions. This world is based around 10th-century Korea, blending elements from neighboring countries in the eastern asian culture sphere that had historical ties with ancient Korean kingdoms!✨ |

Because of that, MazM's version of Hamlet was born with a unique perspective—one that thinks and acts quite differently from the original characters shaped by Christian values and beliefs. The characters in MazM's Hamlet value loyalty to the sovereign and filial piety toward their parents, reflecting an Eastern mindset. Of course, not every character follows these ideals. As MazM reinterpreted the original story with new philosophies and ideas, the plot and themes also took on slightly different forms!
As for the characters’ names, MazM decided to keep the original names as they are. If MazM used Chinese characters, the pronunciation would differ across regions, and MazMians unfamiliar with Chinese-character cultures might have a hard time recognizing the connection to the original characters.
